I was on vacation with my family on Cape Cod when I received a text from an unknown number.
The summer was winding down and the Nelson Family had recently welcomed a new addition—Patrick, now a month old. Steve and his wife Katy were looking to celebrate their first summer as a foursome (big sister Emma was three-and-a-half) with a family photo shoot on the beach near their Cape home.
As the father of my own three-year-old, I know how fleeting these opportunities are, and it’s an honor to help a young family capture these special moments. Needless to say, I took a break from vacation and met the Nelsons out on Boardwalk Beach in Sandwich. (Incidentally, I had an engagement session with Steve’s cousin Christa and her fiancé Brian at the same location back in June.)
As a dad, images like the one above really resonate with me. Capturing tender moments between father and son is so rewarding and we don't see them enough.
Patrick is a lucky guy to have a big sister who adores him this much. Emma was so gentle with him and her face says more than words ever could.
Katy and Emma kicked off their shoes for a stroll before hunting for sandy treasures.
Being in front of the camera can be a tough job, but Emma did excellent and the promise of a post-shoot ice cream put one last smile on her face. Her flavor of choice? Strawberry.
